I got an invite to take a tour of the new Mormon temple
by I quit! inthis is the only time a non-mormon can get to see the inside of one of them.
once they are consecrated (i think that is what they call it) you can't get in unless you are a mormon wearring the special underwear and other requirements.
even mormons don't get in there very often.

Ah, I love Google --- you guys are both right! Mr. Cunningham was a grand poobah, and the Flintstones' Fred was a member of a lodge with a Grand Poobah too.
Archie did belong to a lodge, but no Grand Poobah, so I am wrong, wrong, wrong!
What about the Honeymooners? What was the title of Ralph's fearless leader?

Take some pics and post 'em here, eh. It would be interesting and I'm sure it would be allowed as they let the media do it with video cameras before it is consecrated. Good idea if I go I'll take my cell phone and take pictures if they let me.

JW baptism ............is it valid
by vitty inif you still believe in god or go to church.
do you feel your baptisim as a jw is still valid or have you been baptized again.
i stopped going to meetings over a year ago and am working stuff out in my mind.

If you were baptized before you became a dub as a catholic or a protestant I would think that would still be valid but the JW baptism is the wrong formula for the wrong purpose.

End of the World Near?
by love2Bworldly ini am wondering how many people out there still believe that in the next 100 years or so that this world/earth is going to be destroyed?.
my husband is a christian, and sometimes he is obsessed with world events in the middle east and he thinks one day soon all the christians are going to be raptured away to heaven while the antichrist rules here on earth.
i am extremely uncomfortable when he talks about it because it reminds me of the jws.. any thoughts out there?

When I first left the tower listening to religious speculation on the last days made me feel uneasy because I had heard it all before from the Watchtower. And the WT wasn't even close to being the first to do this. All history there have been those in each generation that knew for sure they were living in the last days. Those people were just as sure as the people that believe it today and nothing happened.
I say go ahead speculate all you like as long as you view it as form of entertainment and don't take it serious. A lot of people have wasted their lives worrying about the end of the world. The end of the world did come for them but through old age and death the same as those who never gave it a thought.
I do find the situation in the middle east very interesting. The amount of hatred most of the world exudes toward a small democratic county like Israel is quite amazing. It does seem to fit into Bible prophecy. But who knows, the squabbling could go on over there for hundreds of years.

What do YOU perceive the gospel to be?
by LouBelle ini read greendawns' thread on 'would accepting the gospel make the world a better place'.
and from there some debated on the belief / existance / non belief / non existance of god?
so my question to you is simply - what is the gospel to you?

It is really quite simple. The Bible says exactly what it is.
1 Corithians 15: 1-4: NKJ Version
1 Moreover brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand,
2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you - unless you beleived in vain.
3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the the Scriptures.
4 and that He was buried , and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.
Either you believe this or you don't but this is what the Bible says it is. .No paradise earth. No ark of salvation. No hoops to jump through.

Lyrics to the hymns
by gringojj ini was at the dc this weekend and one thing caught my attention.
i just found it very odd to use the words "theocratic arrangement" in a hymn.
it makes the idea of god feel so commercialized.

Remember this the it group that gets baptized not in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirt but in the name of the spirted directed organization. They make you punch a time card. The whole thing has a corporate bean counter feel to it.

I believe timing is everything. If the timing doesn't feel right don't push it. An opening to talk about it may come up without you forcing it. I'm sure the things you are learning are changing your attitude toward the WT. I would think she will notice some of these changes and may ask you what is going on. You seem like a smart person so I think you will be able to figure out the right time to address the issue. I don't envy you. I remember the conficting feelings I had when I left. I was exuberant over the freedom I was experiencing on leaving. On the other hand I felt awful over the pain I was causing my wife and our friends. But it had to be done.
